Gifts from my secret Santa

Most organizations secret santa during Christmas, where in every employee of the organization will get a chit, which will contain his / her secret santa. They need to get a gift for that person during the duration of the game. The gift needs to be placed secretly, so that nobody finds it out, till the finale date.

In Summit office also we played this game of secret santa, 1^st day I got a key chain with a chocolate in the first half of the day, during the second half I got an idol of ganesh ji. People in office were like, lucky guy got 2 gifts on the same day. Even I was wondering who the person was. I knew one thing for sure, that this person knows me well.

I started looking out for my secret santa and the first clue was in the gift wrap, that person’s handwriting. Handwriting was good and the ink used was black, then what, I did a surprise visits to all the desk to check the handwriting and the ink. 5 people were shortlisted but it was difficult to pin point, so waited for the second gift to come.

2^nd gift was a chocolate and a lip balm, in whole office there was only I person who knew that I use lip balm and the brand preferred by me. I started checking his office notebook to verify my doubt, my doubt was kind of confirmed by now but still wanted to take a chance.

3^rd gift told the story it was he only, I got a pen and a thump ring. I don’t like pens with rubber grip, he was the only person who knew about it because I had spent one full day in getting a pen without rubber grip and had told him about it. The pen was without rubber grip.

I was happy that my secret was one of my colleague with whom I spent most of my time in office and we share the same cubicle as well. Before identifying his identity I used to discuss with him my doubts about my secret santa. He used to change his strategy accordingly in terms of placing the gift timings. He knew I have full doubt on him.

But his 4^th gift was beyond my imagination, it was a customized coffee mug. He took picture from my facebook account, selected some best, my family. That mug had pics of my full family, my parent and my wife. All office pals liked the gift and said this person knows you very well and has put in effort and time in gifting it to you.

My secret santa was Anirban, I will call it sheer luck that he got my name.

Christmas special “Buffet lunch”

Sitting at home on Christmas eve would be foolishness, when people around your friends would be out either offering prayer at church or for shopping. As usual got up by 8 in the morning thinking it would be pretty cold outside. From bathroom it appeared a foggy day outside, when I turned on the tap and hot water came within seconds my assumption changed. Reason we have solar geyser, if it a foggy day hot water either hot water won’t come or will take long time to come.

After bath when I came to balcony for drying my towel, saw pleasant sunlight which we were missing for few days now. Assuming today being a sunny day, my wife suggested we should put our clothes for washing as it will dry soon. Before we could freeze on it my brother in law announced we will going out for lunch today to enjoy our favorite non veg delicacies. We didn’t even had our breakfast properly, thinking will compensate for it during lunch.

We arrived at the restaurant with my brother in law’s friend there. On enquiring about Christmas special dish we were told about “Christmas special buffet lunch” where five non veg delicacies were being served. My brother in law inspected the delicacies and said its good deal (he is a foodie so no doubt about his decision), we paid 1250 for 5 (3 guys and 2 ladies) people. On reaching the table brother told this deal is not good since I, my wife and my brother’s friends wife will have less food as usual and 2 guys can’t compensate for the remaining 3 of us.

I was feeling guilty because despite my best effort won’t have food beyond a limit, somehow started off well. Hogged on to non veg, more than bread or rice, suggested by my brother. Managed to have 3 rounds, brother was satisfied by performance to some extend. Jackpot was still pending for everyone ice cream, am a die hard fan of it nobody was aware about it except my wife.

Had 2 cups of ice cream first then, my wife offered me hers had that as well but my desire to have was just increasing, brother don’t like ice cream much. Brother noticed I want to have more ice cream, he said go and have only one but my wife got me one more, in all I had 6 ice creams. Brother couldn’t believe it was me who just stops at 2 or 3 roties can have 6 ice creams in one go. He termed as the last batsman who has turned the losing match to wining one. 

But I declared one thing on the table won’t have dinner tonight as am full beyond space. While coming out of the restaurant brother enquired at the ice cream counter the cost of one cup, it was 20rs he was very happy as I ate ice cream for 120 bugs. Brother told from next time onwards only ice creams will be offered to me for buffet lunch as I eat rice and roties less.

Don’t know what was the reason for having so many ice creams but it was truly a delight as long as I don’t fall sick. Due to sinus problem can’t have ice cream much. If I have sore throat or fever like symptoms tomorrow morning, then am gone for sure. Somehow has convinced my wife not to tell mom and dad about ice cream competition else good long lectures are sure from them (just kidding). 

It was great fun today with family and friends today, hope it continues through out..Seem like santa gifted me ice creams this Christmas.
