Spicejet’s mid air Holi Party, what was it?

Whenever we use mediums of transport like cab, bus, train or flight, knowing or unknowing we give our safety in the hand of the people who will be operating these modes of transport. It is the responsibility of the drivers and pilots to ensure that the passengers are taken their destination with utmost care and concern with adequate safety measures.

Recently a video on youtube left me speechless, I saw that video 30 times but didn’t knew what was attracting me towards? It was the video of Spiecejet flight from Goa to Bangalore on 17th March’14, where crew members celebrated holi mid air. They performed on the song “balam pichkari”. The most astonishing part of the video was, both pilots were part of the celebration. One of the pilots joined the crew to perform on the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z2VrVivIxI

During this time the fight was on auto pilot, the duration of the celebration was 2.40 min but the risk undertaken by the pilots, crew members and the innocent passengers were very high. Anything could have happened during that time. Lucky passengers. Some passengers recorded the entire celebration on their smart phones and uploaded it on youtube. That’s how entire world came to know about it.

Post this incident both pilots have been placed under suspension and a show cause notice has been issued to Spicejet. News channels are airing this incident as hot cake and cashing on it. Have any one of us ever thought why this incident happened? I don’t think so. I feel this was marketing strategy which went horribly wrong.

Reasons to support my thought are as following.
  1. Next couple of month’s flight will have low business so in order to attract customer Spicejet would have done it. Couple of airlines has reduced the air fare by 70%. Strategies are being made to retain and attract new customers.
  2.  Are pilots and crew members authorized to perform any such celebration without informing their higher up? I don’t think so. If that would have been the case then cabin crew would have behaved with the passengers they feel like and pilots would have taken flights to the destination liked by them than the one assigned to them.
  3. Pilots are not suppose to come out of the cockpit during the flight or allow people inside, then what forced /motivated them perform on the flight that too mid air? They had rehearsed for the performance.

Don’t know who did what but feel pity on the pilots who has lost their jobs. I am not justifying the act of pilots because they didn’t discharge their duty to the diligently so they should be punished. But want to know one thing “Did pilots performed out of their free will or they were forced to do it? Depending upon the answer only their punishment can be determined.

Selfish people on road

We have across reports in newspaper that accident victims were laying on road for long before help reached them. I used to wonder how people could do such things unless I experienced an incident on road very recently.

I was travelling to office on bike other day, at a traffic junction a bike passed me. The pillion rider of the bike was wearing a laptop bag and it was open. Seems like in hurry he had forgotten to zip the bag. Couple of people would have seen him and his bag but nobody went and told him the same. Don’t know what stopped then from doing so? There was a lady on her scooty who was about to get struck to one of the pouches of the bag, even that didn’t deter her from informing this guy. She went ahead without any fuss.

When traffic moved a bit and I came close to this guy’s bike, I informed him that he has not zipped his bag. To which he politely thanked me and zipped his bag. I was feeling very happy that I helped someone. But their was one thing which was disturbing me, if I can do it, why can’t other? It was very small gesture. There was no money involved in it that people have to think twice about taking an initiative.

This shows how selfish people have become these days, if the same incident would have happened to them and nobody would have bothered to tell them, then they would have lost couple of valuable items from the bag. Post that they would have cribbed about it saying people are selfish these days but they should ask a question to themselves first, aren’t they selfish? A selfish person has no rights to call other person selfish.

Common man's plight with Hospitals and Doctors

Medical profession is regarded as one of the most respectable and noble one, because of the complexity involved in it. Patients on death bed have been brought to life by doctors in many cases. Rarest and complex surgeries have been performed on patients to save a life and give way for other doctors to follow it. Doctor’s at times are in situation where they have to act fast to save life and have to work under extreme situation. There are cases where doctors weren't successful in saving despite the best effort put by them. We shouldn't blame doctors in such cases.

But now this noble profession is being used as a means to make money and play with the emotions of people. Few greedy people from the medical fraternity are bringing disgrace to other professionals who are honest to their work. That’s the reason why people are reluctant to approach doctors at the initial stage of disease. The first thing that comes to a person’s mind when they hears the word doctor is the number of tests, they have to undergo even for a small fever. The costs of these tests are exorbitant, that’s the reason why people prefer to buy medicine over the counter that visiting a doctor.

Here I would like to share 2 of my personal experience by 2 different doctors.

Situation 1

A day my wife complained of acute stomach pain and she was immediately taken to one of the most reputed hospitals, doctors identified the problem and gave her some medicines but asked her to undergo an array of test. They told me that she needs to be operated of the situation. I didn't give my approval for it and bought some time from them for a second opinion. Since I come from a family of doctors and nurses, I checked with them and they suggested me to go for a second opinion. I said no for the surgery and got her discharged from hospital.

We then consulted an expert in that field and his revelation shocked us. He told its silly matter no need to worry. When we tried to show him the report of various tests undertaken in the hospital, his reply was “I don’t want to see as they are of no use to me”. When we inquired about surgery his was shocked and praised my effort in not getting it done. Surgeries are required in extreme situations and here surgery was out of question.

I was saved from this situation because of my family and google, otherwise my wife would have been operated for no cause and I would have ended up paying huge amount of money to the hospital.  Greed for money

Situation 2

I was pain in my index finger for over a month with no respite from personal medication consulted an orthopedic surgeon from a reputed hospital. He told  I have swelling in the vein of my index finger and he will put me in medicines for some time. If the situation doesn’t come under control then physiotherapy or small surgery may be required. He prescribed mild medicine to me and was kind enough answer all my queries. When I met him after 45 days, he was happy with my recovery and told I just need to take care of my finger and things will be fine for me.

When I was about to pay for his consultation, he refused to take it. Despite my best effort, he declined my offer to take his fee. Reason he was happy his patient has recovered and followed his instructions without fail.

I have recommended this doctor to couple of my friends and all have similar experience from. No greed for money

Hospitals make money from test and medicine, hence they ask patient to undergo numerable test. 30% cases test required remaining 70% test act as a source of income for hospitals and doctors. One doctor doesn't acknowledge the test reports, if it has not been taken from their hospital or pathology lab. What difference does it make?

If a doctor is unable to treat a patient, he/she should be honest about it and refer the patient to another hospital rather than risking the life of patient. When doctor’s fail to do their duty, they shouldn't blame patient relative if they turn violent. That is what has happened in Dr. Kunal Saha’s case, where supreme court has award the claimant a compensation of 11crore INR

If doctor’s do their job with full honestly and dedication, they shouldn't fear anything, if not they have tough time ahead.

Why are drivers impatient on roads?

Accidents on road have become a routine now. Daily we can read about them in newspaper or watch them on news channels but have we ever thought of what is the major cause of accidents? No, because we are busy blaming others for the mishap and move on. I feel main cause of most accidents on road today is because of impatience. Wondering how, here are few in my person experiences on road

Today I was stranded in a busy traffic signal there was hardly any place but the biker behind me was honking.  Does honking create additional space for me or force me to move ahead and bang other vehicle? I don’t know. I got space and moved a bit to give ample space for the biker. He moved in but still he has not overtaken me. We were together on that signal till the signal was cleared. Once the signal was cleared he drove at a very high speed, god save him. Bikers are more to accident because their bikes can skid or can bang other vehicle if they lose control. Because one rides bike on balance and the moment you lose, fall on road.

Taxis and bus driver are the one which we should be cautious while driving car. They drive very rashly and at very high speed, if we are not able to give space to them, they don’t mind banging vehicles. Then have good verbal fight on road. There are many L board vehicles on road but neither bus drivers not taxi drivers pay heed to them. Seems like they have forgotten they were also new to road someday and people supported them. Now just because they have become experts doesn’t mean they can make fun of other.

Taxi drivers often ramp bikes and car, then plead for mercy which they hardly get. Then things are taken to nearest police station to resolve the issue. Why? Had you driver your vehicle properly with the stipulated speed limit these things wouldn’t have come to you? Because you didn’t bother for others then now others don’t care for you.

Buses are terror, they change lanes without checking if it may hit other vehicles, they just do it. Buses often ramp cars leading to inconvenience to passengers on board and off board.  Why all these suffering?, follow driving rules and avoid it. But who cares for it. Often we can see buses competing with one another on busy roads.  Why? to get more passenger but in doing so if we harm anyone then who will take responsibility of it? No answer.

The case with individual car owners is no different they also drive at maximum speed to impress people or joy endangering life of innocent people. We have many examples of “hit and run” cases which became newspaper headlines. Hit and run are the best examples of over speeding. Post-accident the driver of the vechile is left to life long suffering depending upon the punishment awarded to him by the court.

When on road we could care for

1st Safety of people on road
2nd Safety of our vehicle
3rd Safety of our self (Because we have someone waiting for us at home)

It better to be late than being in hospitals, graveyards, police station or lead a miserable life on bed all throughout, which I don’t think anybody will like. So take wise decisions and reap benefits from it.

Power of Unity! Thanks to Bangalore Mirror

A month ago Bangalore Mirror, local daily in Bangalore, launched a campaign for the citizen and the betterment of Bangalore. Bangalore known as the silicon valley of India, was struggling with potholes in different parts of the city. It has become a nuisance for the people to commute from one place to another.

Bangalore Mirror covered this story and requested people to participate in the campaign. Participation was simple, people had to take photo the pothole close to their locality and it to Bangalore Mirror. All photographs were send to an email id created exclusively for this purpose. The response was overwhelming, daily a page was contributed for this section, which contained photograph of pothole along with the locality. Sender name was kept confidential.

Slowly authorities started reacting to it and potholes in key areas of Bangalore were filled with immediate effect with the assurance that other areas will be covered soon. My locality had close to 6 potholes and one among them was pretty big. With bike one can manage them but cars were a real terror. Due to potholes people stopped commuting by cars and resorted to bikes. But there were few people who used cars and paid for the potholes from their pocket. Bangalore Mirror covered such incident as well apart from images of potholes.

Today morning was a pleasant delight for me, I saw all the potholes of my locality being filled and roads being tarred, making it convenient for commuters. We wouldn’t have seen this change if Bangalore Mirror had not taken this initiative and urged citizens to participate to betterment of the society and themselves.

Would like to applaud the initiative take by Bangalore Mirror, to make Bangalore roads pothole free. And their constant effort to keep the fire burning. Many times it has happened that people start up a thing but leave it midway when they don’t see any response from it, at the time stipulated by them. They forget the fact constant effort always yield result but one has to wait for it and should have faith in oneself.

This win had reassured our belief in the power of unity, had citizens not participated in this campaign whole heartedly, results wouldn’t have been evident so soon. Together we can always make a difference but need a reason and constant support to stand for it.

Looking forward to see more examples of “Power of Unity”

Should we entertain calls offering Bank Loan?

Most of us keep getting calls from various banks for different kind of loans be it “car, house or personal loan”. When we ask about the formalities for getting the loan, they tell  PAN card, address proof, photos and letter from your current organization. But when we apply for loan, we realize that whatever was communicated to us through phone and what we are asked to produce are different things all together. Here is a small story about a leading pvt bank in India

I applied for a loan and within minutes received confirmation that loan has been approved. I was very happy, reason being my association with the bank is 6yrs old. Till date I never had any issues with the bank. But the real shock was about to come for me. Next day bank representative came to me for collecting the documents and get my signature in the loan form.  I was about to sign the form when he told me that rental agreement can’t be accepted and some other proof need to be submitted.

I offered him Voter ID cars, Aadhar card and he said no as these are not from Bangalore so can’t accept it but they contained my permanent address. I was like “am I dealing with a bunch of idiots?” I can change my rental address anytime but not permanent address. I tried to justify my stand but he was not willing to listen to me. He didn’t even try to call his superiors back in bank to find a way out. Finally I showed him the way out.

His attitude was “if want to take the loan else move off” but when we go the branch of this said bank you are floored by their humbleness and supportive nature. Bank representative was not able to satisfy my queries about the loan term and conditions. His only motive was get the signature and keep moving.

My friend also faced the similar problem with the same bank, she applied for a loan for 3 yrs but she finished the loan amount in an year’s time, when she requested the bank to give her an NOC. She had a tough time with the bank to procure it. She was so frustrated with the bank that she closed the account with the bank and has decided not to have relation with the bank.

Few questions to the banks offering loan

  •   If you have so many issues with rented residents then why do you target them? Provide loans only to permanent residents
  •  Aadhar card is accepted throughout India, which even has our finger print and permanent address, these banks are operating in India but they are not willing to abide Indian’s UIN
  •  Banks are not providing loans free of cost, they charge interest on it, that’s the way how they survive, then why this who cares attitude?
  •  Customers have number of option to take loan but do banks have so many customers and funds with them that they can afford to send off any customer
  • Loans are a win- win situation for both bank and individuals then why this attitude?

Can suicides give you justice?

I was reading article in “Times of India” Bangalore edition other day, when came across a story which left me spell bound. Didn’t knew how to react to it? Only 2 things were in my mind 1. Is human life so cheap? 2. Do we need to consume poison to make ourselves heard? Here the story

A family of 4 comprising of a couple and their kids enter police commissioner’s office and fainted at the reception one after another, foam was coming out their mouth. It didn’t take much time for the police personnel deployed there to understand that it was a case of poisoning. They rushed to action called for an ambulance, blocked the road to shift them to the hospital at the earliest.  Timely help saved their life.

Reason for their extreme step lead to a shocking revelation. The lady of the family was cheated of property worth Rs 20 crore by her brother and a high ranking government officer. She filed a case for justice in court but her brother convinced her to withdraw the case, promising her to pay the required compensation. Poor emotional fool with drew the case and was Rs 5 lakhs. Post this injustice she ran from post to pillar in different departments of police and court but nobody came to her rescue.

She met high ranking police officer’s couple of time but apart from assurances didn’t get anything. With no  one to support and her dying faith in judicial system, she decided to end her life with family. After consuming poison, she went to police commissioner office to make an attempt for justice last time.

Post the story police and judicial system have flung into action and are investigating the case afresh to seek justice. Just to make herself heard and seek justice this lady had to go to the extent of taking her life. This came to our notice, there could be many which go unnoticed.

Few questions in mind

Had that family died, the real cause for suicide would have never been revealed?
To what extend a person should go to seek justice and be heard?
Will she get justice now?
When timely action can avert such situations, then why to encourage such incidents?
Will judiciary take action against the culprits for abatement to suicide?
